Winter Camp!

Battersea District (what I is a Brownie in) had a Winter Camp for Thinking Day (well....it was a bit later than Thinking Day, but dats okie really) at Polyapes Scout Campsite. I had a good look round and I didn't see no other apes but I did see a lots of monkey business...
First we gots in da car and drove a long ways! I was ver excited!
all buckled up
There was lossof Brownies when we gots there! And Guides.

First we had a run around outside.

We founded some exciting tires to play on. And Helen taught us a game in Hindi

Then the Guides went and put up da tents. Is okie, for da Camper Badge I doesn't gots to put up tents.
cosy lil tents
I was helping da [info]muppster inside with all da Brownies. There was Brownies from 1st and 3rd South Battersea (dats me!) and 11th Battersea Park. We spend da morning doing crafts and things from all over da world. There was Polish Paper Cutting (making doilies) and Mexican God Eyes, and embossing a pretty necklass (but I can'ts remember where dat was from now), and making Japanese bangy drum things you twizzle between your hands (they was da good!) and [info]muppster had a Girl Scout Adventure for everyone to go on. It was da funs! I post about it after this, cos it all about another badge, see. Some people made uniforms from binliners for it, they was ver good!

Then it was lunchtime!
lunch o'clock
I was chief in charge of preparing and serving da naners.
mmmmmmmmm!
And I dids lossof washing up too!

After lunch we played Da Paper Bag Game, it was ver interesting. We gots into teams of seven what were meant to be families in a poor part of India. We hads a mummy and a daddy, and a grandmummy and then lossof childrens. Each family was trying to make money by making paper bags to sell to shopkeepers. First we hads to learn how to make the bags, it was a bit tricky.
learning how to make paper bags
When we gots ten bags made we could take them to the shop and try to sell them for £1. The shopkeepers were a bit mean sometimes and tested that the bags would hold stuff without falling apart. Sometimes they would give you back the rubbish ones to fix, but sometimes they just threwed them aways!
the shop
We got 20mins to make bags and sell them, and we made lossanloss of bags, but didn't make ver much money.
lookee how many we made!
Then we stopped making bags and got a list of what it cost to buy food and clothes and things, and had to work out how many hours we'd have to work to afford to eat. Some groups decided to have one meal a day and worked 7 hours, others had two meals a day and worked 10 hours! Dats a lot of fold and stick, it would get a bit borrrrrring. And none of da childrens in da families were going to school. Living like dat would be a bits rubbish. I is glad I has a [info]muppster to look afters me.
Then we had a campfire!

We sanged da Girl Scout Song cos all da Brownies had learnt it, and we sang lossof other songs too. My new Brownie friends helped me with da actions to Magic Penny and This Little Guiding Light of Mine. I hads fun!
Then it was time for da other Brownies to go home! I was a bit sad. They wasn't camping over, see, only da Guides and me and da leaders was. I saids goodbye to all my new friends.
my new friends
And then [info]muppster's camera ran out of battery and she forgotted da charger. Doh! Da Guides and me played some games for a bit, and then we gots all our beds sorted out in our tents. I had da cosy bed in da tent with [info]muppster and [info]bfo, but there isn't any photos of it :-( but I shows you what my bed looked like. When yous inside tents you gots to be careful you doesn't touch da sides, or it make things soggy inside.
toasty bed
Then we walked to da fish and chip shop and ate yummmmmmmmy dindins outside there. It was a bit spooky on da footpath through da trees in da dark, but I wasn'ts scared cos da Guides lookeded after me. We gots hotchokkit and hot water bottles when we gots back to da campsite and eveybody crawled into snuggly warm sleepybags and was soon zzzZZZZzzzZZZZzzz. It was a bit windy, but I wasn'ts a bit cold.
In da morning we gots up and aired our beds while we scoffed breakfast, and then packed them ups again. You gots to air your bed or it gets smelly and also cos it gets damp from condensation a bit too. And you packs it up in waterproofs cos then it stay dry and it out of da way, and cos it will get damp in the evening if you leaves it rolled out.
all packed up
Da Guides tooks da tents down and den we all gots our Winter Four Seasons Camp Challenge Badge! I is so much of da proud!
all buckled up
For da Camper Badge it says I gots to keep a diary at camp. Dis is it :-) Da besterist bit about camp was all da new friends I maded!
my friend Izzy
And it says I gots to make a keepsake of da camp. When we was doing da Girl Scouts bit what I'll post about in a minute, I gots givened a lil Gnome by another Brownie. I made a lil Elf and gave it to her, so dats my keepsake.
Den it says to show how to dress for hot weather
hot weather
and wet weather
wet weather
and why you gots to keep clean, warm and dry at camp. Well, silly, if you don'ts, you smell (so no one will sit next to you, and dat's no fun), and iss miserable if you gets cold and wet is icky too, and you can get sick.

So can I has my Camper badge, puhleeese?

Maybe if he did, he was just doing so to look after one of his new friends who was to this scared of the dark. And looking out for each other sounds like a brownie thing to do?
